We're not sure. It depends on donations, and how many people want to play the server.

2. What mods do I need to install to play?
The only thing required to be able to play AoE is the Lord of the Rings Mod which uses Forge for Minecraft 1.7.10. Check out our How to install Forge Guide!

3. What version is the server? Will it ever be updated to a higher version?
The Age of Empires server uses the Lord of the Rings Mod which, as stated by the creator, will not be updated further than 1.7.10, which means the server will never be updated further than 1.7.10...
